The Science

Benefits
As we age, our skin loses volume and we begin to notice wrinkles and fine lines. Botox® is a facial injection that improves the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles and lines. The most common injection sites include crow’s feet near the eyes, smile lines near the mouth, and frown lines between the eyebrows.
Every time we move our face – laugh, smile, frown, etc. – our muscles are contracting. After years of moving these muscles, they begin to create furrows and folds in the skin. Botox® is different than many facial fillers. Instead of adding volume, Botox® blocks the nerve signals that contract the facial muscles, paralyzing them. The result is smoother and less defined wrinkles. Over time, you may require less frequent treatments, as weaker muscles contract less frequently and stop new wrinkles from forming. Botox® has also been proven to be an effective treatment for incontinence, overactive sweat glands, and migraines.
A Botox® injection takes just a few minutes. Your doctor will inject the treatment site to temporarily decrease muscle activity. There is no downtime and side effects include light bruising, which typically subsides in a few days. Results generally last 4-6 months, with repeated treatments necessary for desired results.
